LITTLE INDIA 2010

There was an air of festivity at Little India in King's Street before Deepavali celebration. People of the Hindu faith thronged the place to shop for foodstuff, decor and many prayers items.

Traffic was a bit heavy but on the whole it was somewhat controlled and people of all faith happily shopping or just eating out at the numerous eateries around the place.


KEW ONG YEH FESTIVAL 2010

The Kew Ong Yeh festival is celebrated on the 9th month of the lunar calendar. During this time, devotees observed a 9 days vegetarian diet as a way to repent their sins. On the 9th day the deity is sent away is a small boat out to sea.

This festival is prevalent is Penang where stalls drape in yellow sell vegetarian food. Every year Madras Lane in Penang is congested with devotees as the food here is of various variety. One can even find vegetarian dumplings and pizza here.

NEW BANANA LEAF RESTAURANT IN TOWN

For banana leaf rice lovers there is a new restaurant in town at China Street. The name is Rajammah Restaurant. It is a simple restaurant and the food is quite good and it is not pricy. For those budget conscious banana leaf lovers, this is the right place.

It is just opposite the Goddess of Mercy temple. Just follow the road down and you will see it on the left after moving about 50 metres.

ABHIMDHARMA NIGHT 2010

Mettananda Vihara in Paya Terubong, Penang celebrated the Abhimdhrama night recently. There were chanting, dharma talk, offeirng of lights and flowers and the whole vihara was like a festival of sort. Many Burmese also took the opportunity to join in the event by offeirng lights and flowers.

Food flowed freely and everyone was free to do dana by giving and offering of money, foodstuff, robes and other items.
