FRIENDLY DOGS

I came across a pair of friendly dogs while picking up my son. At a snap of the finger or calling out both the dogs will come wagging their tails.

They were just like a pair of Siamese Twins. One of the dogs, the black one I named it "Sausage" which is actually owned by someone around the vicinity as there is a badge at the collar. The other white dog is a stray. I named it "White White".  I always look forward to see the both of them.

Now children also start to take a liking to the dogs. Little wonder we human call dogs men's best friend. I surely agree to that. They are lovely and they certainly make your day.

PENANG FIRST BURGER KING

Burger King opened its first outlet in Penang in Jalan Sungai Pinang near Jelutong Expressway beside the promenade. To attract more people to the outlet it recently promoted its burger by offering a burger just for RM1 with the purchase of a carbonated drink.

It was just a one-day promotion and many Penangite who were aware of such a not-to-be-missed promotion thronged and packed the place. Photos showing the place and crowd.

GRAVE MATTER

For those residents staying around the cemetery in Batu Lanchang it is a classic case of the living not spared the wrath of the dead. It is the perennial burning at the cemetery that really irked the residents for making the vicinity of the cemetery as their home.

It is a blatant case of convenience at the expense of global warming and air pollution. So what is global warming and air pollution to the folks who managed the century old cemetery ?

CHAR BEE HOON BERATUR ?

We have heard of Nasi Kandar Beratur where nasi kandar lovers faithfully waiting in line to gobble on their delicious and must-have nasi. Now we have in our midst Char Bee Hoon (CBH) beratur. Just imagine the CBH lovers faithfully queuing even before the sun is up.

This is typical of the Penangite who go for cheap cheap and big big. In hokkien it is called "pan ji tua teh." Coincidentally, CBH is also called "Tiong Kok Hu Chi " translated as Chinese shark fins.

ALOE FLOWER

I came across this aloe vera plant in bloom recently. This must be the first time I happened to notice it. Many a time, life is such. We are so caught up with daily mundane routine, so much so we overlooked nature's beauty.

Aloe vera is such a beautiful plant not only for its medicinal value but also for its aesthetic value. See it for yourselves.

1 MALAYSIA BELACAN

This new DIGI advertisement has all the ingredients of 1 Malaysia in it. Perhaps it is the main reason for it to be so that is to provide the best TELCO services to all Malaysians irrespective of race, religion and background. Afterall, all of us bleed red.

The humble "belacan" or shrimp paste is really a unifying factor.Watch and enjoy. It will put a smile on your face !

GORY COIN TRICK

This guy is actually a street magician performing a quite gory coin magic. For the faint hearted this can be quite frightening. But all well ends well. There was no serious injury to any living soul but just a minor cut to the performer.

See for yourselves how this magic act can thrill and and the same time frightened the daylight out of some timid spectators.

Enjoy !

NOVEL WAY TO RECYCLE BOTTLE CAP

I found this tip very useful when you want to keep foodstuff using plastic bags and also when you are about to discard your plastic drinking bottle.
Why not put them in use for the betterment of the environment, in line with the greenie campaign slogan of reuse, reduce, recycle. At least we can help by reducing the amount of pollution and pollutant.

First cut out the neck of the bottle with the cap intact. Then put items to be stored in plastic bag. Finally insert the plastic through the neck of the bottle.

Presto ! You can store your food item air-tight and safely in the fridge. We should salute the person you came up with such an incredible yet simple idea. Bravo !

See photos for a clearer picture of what and how to do it.

AWESOME HAWAIIAN WAVES

These photos of Hawaiian waves were captured by professional photographer, Clark Little. It all started in 2007 when his wife wanted a nice piece of art to decorate a wall.

Voluntarily, Clark grabbed a camera, jumped in the water, and starting snapping away capturing the beauty and power of monstrous Hawaiian waves from the inside out.

"Clark 's view" is a unique view of the ocean that most will only be able to experience safely on land while studying one of Clark 's photos.
Now with a camera upgrade and an itch to get that better shot, Clark has taken this on full time and has moved his office from land, to the inside of a barrel.

CALL FOR BOYCOTT

There has been a flood of emails regarding a char koay teow stall in Lorong Selamat where a customer had a bad experience. The caricature clearly shows the arrogance of the koay teow seller. See it for yourself. It pays to be courteous at all times.

For every action, there is a reaction.

G HOTEL IN RAYA MOOD

The G Hotel logo shows that it is in festive mood. In conjuction with the Hari Raya , the logo has taken a new life with ketupat festooning it. It is my observation that the hotel management certainly capitalised on the logo itself.

Come December when christians ushering in christmas the logo will definitely take on a christmas look.

GIANT PHONE AT GURNEY PLAZA, PENANG

A small crowd caught my attention while shopping on the 3rd floor of the plaza. It could be Santa making his appearance not was it Alladin.

As I went closer it was children being flabbergasted at the unprecendented gigantic phone with functionable touch screen.

Talk about technology nowadays, it really is a crowd puller.

BEWARE OF NEW 3RD LANES AT NORTH-SOUTH HIGHWAY

Road users beware. Just sharing a word of caution. Please do not throw caution to the wind. If it rains this stretch of the highway would be slippery. So folks be on the look out. An info on time saves lives. Here's a quote from a contractor :

"I am a building contractor based in Penang with over twenty years of experience and I have been driving my 5 series BMW (latest generation and a dammed solid road-holding car) each time I travelled to KL. Lately, the new extended 3 lanes highway had been opened up for use and since then, I have also been using it quite often.

HOWEVER, when I used it each time it is WET, I can really 'feel' that the new road surface is extremely SLIPPERY! To share with some of you, my car comes with a built-in traction control mechanism ( skidding prevention mechanism ) and you can feel it each time it is activated. Previously, I don't come across this kind of slippery feel except when I drive over a paddle of water at certain speed.

I am highlighting this to TV3 and The Star with the hope that a thorough investigation could be carried out immediately to find out how or what causes the bus to skid. A proper and independent test need to be carried out urgently to determine the design mix of the wearing course. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES.

IF YOU ARE USING THE NEW LANES AND IF IT IS WET, MAKE SURE YOU DRIVE SLOWLY!!!!

BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS IN PENANG 2010

Least we forgot. We are very fortunate to be living in the Pearl of the Orient. We are surrounded by plenty of heritage buildings yet due to the hectic lives we are living we failed many a time to notice them.

Perhaps it is time to document them before they are swallowed by development or lost in the name of development. Like the saying, we should stop by to smell the roses.

MY FAVOURITE KOAY TEOW SOUP

This is the place in Penang where I normally partake my favourite koay teow soup with lots of extras like extra fishballs, koay teow, pork etc etc.

It is located at 183, Carnavon Street with a branch at 53/55 Burma Road.  Besides the delectable koay teow, I particularly like the drinks especially the fresh nutmeg juice and iced tea shake.

As for dessert, I will normally not leave the place without a go at the palatable coconut tart and egg tart. In addition there are also other cookies for your picking.

Welcome to my koay teow haven. Yum Yum.

RARE BIRDS

These are pictures of rare birds seldom seen by the naked eyes. Here are some photos which I am pleased to share courtesy of my friend.

OLD PENANG CHARM

These are the photos of Penang in yesteryears. They are now part of our memories for those buildings and roads upgraded or demolished will remain fondly etched in our memories or merely stay as a piece of photo or painting tucked somewhere in an album or on a wall.

Let's go down memory lane by viewing these priceless pictures. Good day.

NICE BUILDINGS NEAR FORT CORNWALLIS 2010

These few nice buildings were repainted for the Merdeka Parade near Fort Cornwallis, Penang. The architecture reminds us of Penang's colourful past especially the clock tower. Only if those buildings could talk, then we would have an earful of the historical past.

INTERESTING SIGNBOARDS 2010

I came across some interesting signboards as I rummage across the Pearl of the Orient for some mouth-watering cuisine. There are so many interesting and eye-catching signboards around and some can be mind-boggling when you try to decipher.

I was lucky to have noticed them as many people are still unaware especially the one who made them and also the one who put them up. It boils down being not so careful or not so mindful. Have a nice day.

Cheers!!!!

SLIDES OF MERDEKA CELEBRATION 2010 IN PENANG

This year the 53rd Independence Day celebration in Penang was held at the Fort Cornwallis perimeter. Various bodies and organization took part namely government and NGOs.

The was a riot of colours at the area and shutterbugs and tourists mingled in the crowd and shot fervently with their lenses. It was a nice day as the weather was great and conducive creating a nice ambience.

Slides showing a few snapshots.

BON ODORI FIREWORKS 2010

For those who missed the Bon Odori festival  in Penang especially the fireworks, here's a video clip of it. Hopefully you can join in the fun at the Fort Cornwallis field next year.

Cheers!!!!
